Escape the crowds of the northern safari circuit on this 3-day journey into Mkomazi National Park — home to one of Tanzania's most important black rhino sanctuaries and a rare-species haven just a few hours from Moshi. Expect wide-open dry-country wilderness, close encounters with critically endangered black rhino, and some of the best birdwatching in the country.

Day by Day Itinerary

Depart Moshi in the morning and drive approximately 2.5–3 hours via Same town to Zange Gate. Afternoon game drive en route to camp, watching for giraffe, oryx, gerenuk, and elephant against the backdrop of the Pare Mountains. Overnight at a tented camp near park headquarters or a lodge in Same.
Early morning game drive followed by a guided visit to the Mkomazi Rhino Sanctuary (Mbula Reserve) to see black rhino at close range. Afternoon exploring Dindira Dam, a wildlife hotspot for birdlife, crocodiles, and monitor lizards. Optional night game drive to spot nocturnal species.
Sunrise game drive focused on birdlife and dry-country wildlife, then breakfast and departure back to Moshi, arriving early-to-mid afternoon.
